Emidio John Imperiale, 97 of New Milford, CT, passed away Friday June 1st 2018 at home after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Louise A Imperiale who predeceased him on June 23rd 2015.
John was born in Midland, PA, on April 14th 1921,son of Silvio and Rose Imperiale, the only boy of their four children.
John enlisted in the service at age 19, to serve his country during WWII. He served for three and a half years as a first division Marine, earning the rank of Sargent. He served at Guadalcanal in the South Pacific, in Australia and New Zealand and participated in four major engagements, earning the title of Pistol Expert. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
John worked for the Pullman Train Company for a number of years in the 1950’s as an air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic. He then began working for the Grand Union Company in the early 1960’s in the same capacity, working his way up to an executive position in the company by the time he retirement in 1988. He was responsible for operations in the opening of many Grand Union Supermarkets throughout the New York Tri- State area during his career.
John and his wife Louise were avid travelers. Traveling throughout Europe, extensively throughout Italy and France. John was a self-taught wine enthusiast which paired perfectly with he and his wife Louise’s love of food and family. They were thoughtful and skillful entertainers and made everyone feel welcome in their home.
John was many things to many people, among them a dedicated and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His gift was his ability making personal connections with many people on a variety of different levels throughout his life. His love of reading, learning and of people in general contributed to this life skill.
John is survived by his loving daughter Susan Imperiale Guillen and her husband Rafael Guillen of Kent, CT, his treasured grandsons, William and Phillip Guillen, two sons Lawerence and Michael Imperiale of PA and many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday June 4, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford, CT, followed by the interment in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
