Johnson, William A.

William A. Johnson of Danbury, CT, passed away peacefully at home Monday October 16, 2017 at the age of 90.
He was born July 26, 1927 in New York, NY, son of the late Herbert and Ann (Kassler) Johnson. After graduating from Bronx High School of Science in 1945, he served briefly with the Navy. He then received his bachelor’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ as a mechanical engineer. On October 2, 1954, he married Ethel T. Hannaberry in Bronx, NY. Bill lived in Hawthorne, NY and worked for NY Telephone in White Plains, NY for over twenty years before retiring in 1986 and moving to New Milford, CT, where he then served as Sewer Commissioner for over 15 years. Bill was also an avid glider pilot and member of the Nutmeg Soaring Association for many years. In 2007, Bill and Ethel moved to Danbury, CT.
Besides his wife Ethel, Mr. Johnson is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Dimes of Stamford, CT, grandchildren Gregory Elting and Geoffrey and Stephen Squire, and great grandchildren Kevin and Patrick Elting. He was predeceased by his daughter Katherine Elting in 1985.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday October 20, 2017 at 11:00am at Holy Rosary Church in Hawthorne, NY. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Calling hours will be held Thursday October 19, 2017 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
