On Saturday, July 15, 2017, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rita A. Gentile (Domato), passed away in Danbury, CT at the age of 87.
Born in Mt. Vernon, NY on July 26, 1929, to parents James and Loretta (Levasseur) Domato, Rita graduated from A.B. Davis High School. On the day she was introduced to Salvatore Gentile, Rita proclaimed to her family “I just met the man I’m going to marry!” Rita and Salvatore were married on September 27th, 1952 and moved to Danbury, CT. She remained in Danbury for 13 years, working as a preschool teacher, before moving her family to Colorado, California, and back to Connecticut in 1980. Upon retiring, Rita and Salvatore moved to Cape Cod, MA, where she loved sitting on the beach and watching the waves. In June 2016 she moved to New Milford, CT to be closer to family.
Rita was a lover of the arts, spending her time reading, drawing, painting, watching old movies and writing in her journal. Rita had the ability to make friends wherever she went. With her ever-expanding wisdom and her priceless sense of humor, Rita made it easy to engage in endless conversation. She was a fantastic hostess, possessing a welcoming quality that made every guest in her home feel important and loved.
Rita will be treasured and forever remembered by her daughter, Cheryl Baldwin (Gentile) and husband Ralph of New Milford, CT and son, Robert Gentile and wife Cecilia of Clemmons, NC. Rita will also be remembered by her six grandchildren Nicholas, Cody, his wife Liliane and Zachary Mosca, and Jaclyn, Gregory and Matthew Gentile, and her two great-grandchildren Vincent and Liliana Mosca, all of whom brought great joy to her life. Rita’s memory will also live on in the hearts of her numerous dear friends.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Salvatore, her daughter, Debra, and her sister, Theresa.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 AM, followed by a celebration of Rita’s life.
There will be a private service at the National Cemetery in Cape Cod, MA, at a later date, where Rita will join her loving husband Salvatore and her daughter Debra.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s name to: St. Labre Indian School orSt. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
