Barbara Ballou Smith (fondly known as Bobbie) of Washington, Connecticut and Christiansted, St. Croix, formerly of Bronxville, New York and New Canaan, Connecticut died peacefully early in the morning of July 3rd, 2017, at the age of 89. Born March 24, 1928 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Hosea Cushman Ballou and Edna Calkins Ballou. Raised in Bronxville, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s School in Peekskill and attended Katharine Gibbs School in New York City.
Bobbie was a lifelong lover of animals, an enthusiastic reader, swimmer, golfer, walker, and was quite proud of her left handed fast ball. She stayed active with the Garden Club of Washington, St. John’s Episcopal Church and as a volunteer at the Gunn Memorial Library in Washington.
Bobbie was predeceased by her husband, Mason Smith, her sons Mason Ballou Smith of Charleston, SC and Gary Chapman Smith of Bellingham, WA, as well as by her sisters Nancy Marie Ballou Albright & Carol Ballou Kapp. She is survived by her son Douglas Caldwell Smith of Beaufort, NC, her grandson Frederick Whitney Smith of New York City.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 29, 2017 at 11:00am at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, CT, followed by the interment in Washington Green Cemetery.
