Menard, Anna M.

Anna Marie Menard, aged 82, died peacefully at home in the presence of her family after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. She was born in Oxford, NY, the daughter of Joseph Knoll, originally of Ӧedheim, Germany, and Anna Niesz Knoll of Queens, NY. She grew up in Oxford, NY on her father’s very successful dairy farm. She is survived by 3 siblings, Joseph Knoll of Oxford, NY, Robert Knoll of Liberty Township, OH, and Patricia Erickson of New Milford, CT. She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Edward J. Menard. She is also survived by 7 children, Michele Lee of Brookfield,  Michael Menard of Catonsville, MD, Matthew Menard of Hollywood, MD, Mark Menard of New Milford, CT,  Martin Menard of Gaylordsville,CT,  Mary McGrath of Lake Luzerne, NY and Maury Menard of Broad Brook, CT, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Anna received her RN at Saint Joseph School of Nursing in Syracuse, NY in 1955, and worked as a nurse for over 50 years. Over the course of her career she worked at Sturdy Memorial hospital in Attleboro, MA, the Wrentham State School, and the Danbury Nurses Registry, during which time she cared for one patient for 10 years. She also worked for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction services at Fairfield Hills State Hospital and the Greater Danbury Mental Health Authority, from which she retired. She served on the board of the Women’s Center in Danbury. Anna had a life-long love of education. She studied Special Education at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts. She received certification in psychiatric nursing in 1984 and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Western Connecticut State University in 1989. Additionally she  received two Master’s degrees from WCSU, one in Community Counseling in 1994 and  Health Care Administration in 1999. She was a prolific seamstress and enjoyed travelling with her young family to her father’s farm on vacation and later in life to the Holy Land and to Italy.  Calling hours will be at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford on Thursday May 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church, 26 Chestnut Land Rd., New Milford on Friday May 26th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the VNA/Hospice of New Milford and the Women’s Center in Danbury.
