Aldrich, Charles H. Jr.

Charles H. Aldrich Jr., 93, of New Milford, CT. passed away on Wednesday November 16, 2016 at Candlewood Valley Health Center, New Milford. He was the husband of Thelma Ohmen Aldrich whom he married on February 8, 1945.
Mr. Aldrich was born in New Milford, CT, September 29, 1923, son of the late Charles H. Sr. and Mona Wildman Aldrich.
He graduated from New Milford High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service with the Atlantic and Pacific Patrol,  from 1942-1945. He was an electrician with Northeast Utilities from 1946 to 1982, serving as supervisor of the Hydro Electric Division.
Mr. Aldrich was a member of the VFW Post 1672 of New Milford and the U.S. Submarine Veterans of Groton CT.
He was a dedicated and active member of the New Milford community. He was a member of the  Water Witch Hose Co.#2 from 1974 to 2016, president of the Quaker Cemetery Association,  a member of the NM Board of Education from 1958 to 1972, as well as serving many years on school building committees, and a volunteer driver and blood donor with the American Red Cross.  He was a member of the First Congregational Church of New Milford.
Mr. Aldrich was an honorary member of the Bridgewater Fire Department and a member of the Bridgewater Grange, formerly Metichewan Grange of New Milford.
In addition to his wife Thelma of 71 years, he is survived by a son Frederick Aldrich of New Milford; three daughters, Lynn Webster and husband Robert of New Milford, Vicky Aldrich of West Hartford, CT and Kathleen Murray and husband Richard of New Milford; grandchildren Michael Webster, Katherine Lachance, Jillian and Bailey Murray, Alexis and Olivia Aldrich; and great grandchildren Violet Webster and Jack Lachance.  He is also survived by a sister Arline Hulton of New Milford.  He was predeceased by a brother Staff Sgt. Frederick N. Aldrich.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19 ,2016 at 1 pm at the First Congregational Church, 36 Main Street, New Milford. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery, New Milford.
Friends may call on Friday, Nov 18, from 5 to 8 pm at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Water Witch Hose Company #2, 8 Prospect Hill  Road, New Milford, CT. 06776
