Marden, Bernard E.

Bernard E. Marden, 93, of Brookfield, CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehab Center on Tuesday November 8, 2016.
Bernard was born in Freeman, ME, on January 12, 1923 son of the late Grange and Gladys (Moore) Marden. He grew up in Strong , ME, where he attended School. After high school he moved to CT, where he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft until he enlisted in the Army during WWII. He served in the Pacific as a heavy machine gunner. After the war he married Marjorie Pomeroy and started his career as a plumbing and heating contractor. He founded Bernard Marden and Sons Plumbing and Heating which he operated for many years. He worked  well into his 80’s and was active until recently. Bernard enjoyed visiting with family and friends, deep sea fishing and watching sporting events, especially the Red Sox. He was an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction and he enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows, Dr. Phil and Judge Judy.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie in 1993 and his son, Thomas in 1992 and Gary in February 2016. He is survived by his son Bob Marden of Brookfield, CT and daughter Penny Marden of New Milford, CT, a daughter-in-law Beverly Marden of New Milford, CT; six grandchildren: Lisa DAmore and her husband Carmine, Robert R. Marden and his wife Nancy, Sarah Marden, Nicole Marden, Jennifer Marden and Megan Marden; 5 great grandchildren; Eliza and Marissa Howarth, Cassandra, Brandon and Robby Marden; 3 great-great grandchildren, Madyson, Mason and McKenzie and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday November 19 from 12:00am to 2:00pm at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 2:00pm. Internment will be private.
Contributions in Mr. Mardens memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s research Hospital or to Wounded Warrior Family Support.
