At the age of 17, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy with his father’s permission. He served with the United States Navy from 1946-1949. He was a radio control operator aboard the ship, the USS Hyades. He travelled to many places in the South Pacific as well as China. These were fond memories for him, and he would often regale us with his high adventures of the sea as well as his stories of exotic ports of call.
Joseph married his devoted wife, Dorothy, on September 29, 1951. They had lived in Long Island before moving to New Milford in December of 1967. Together, they raised four loving children there. Joseph was a former long-time employee of Perkin Elmer. He was a senior project planner and was very proud to have worked on such projects as the mirror for the Hubbell Space Telescope. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church and the VFW Post #1672 in New Milford. One of his most recent cherished memories was taking a trip to Washington D.C. to honor World War II Veterans for the American Warrior Day of Honor. There he was able to see the long awaited World War II memorials.
After 62 years of marriage, Dorothy predeceased him in July 2013. He was also predeceased by his oldest son, Joseph, and his loving sister, Jeanne. Mr. Nash is survived by his son David Nash, daughters, Doreen Profeta and her husband John, and Claudia Cole and her husband Tom, all of New Milford, CT.
