Zeckoski, Josephine

Josephine Zeckoski of New Milford, CT, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Candlewood Valley Health Care Center in New Milford at the age of 94.

She was born March 4, 1922 in Derby, CT, daughter of the late Tomasz and Maria (Siembor) Kozielec. At a young age she and her family moved to New Milford where she remained as a lifelong resident. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Hartford, CT in 1940.

Throughout her life, she held a number of different positions from manufacturing to retail, but she found her niche with SNET (AT&T) and spent 35 years there as an operator and later in a supervisory capacity. She was a life member of the New Vision Pioneers, a volunteer organization affiliated with AT&T.

She was dedicated to her faith. When her family moved to New Milford they became members of St Francis Xavier Church. Mrs. Zeckoski and her husband were married there in 1946. She loved her garden and flowers and loved sharing  them with her friends. She was very self sufficient and canned many of her own vegetables, sewed clothes for herself and her children and also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Mrs. Zeckoski is survived by her children: John Zeckoski Jr and his wife Marilyn  of Christiansburg, VA; Sandra Zeckoski Mahler of Bradenton, FL, and Joanne and her husband  William Woodington of Morris, CT and Linda Hoppstein Zeckoski of Colorado Springs, CO.  She has five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John Zeckoski, her sister and brother-in-law Laura (Kozielec) and Carlton Day; and her son-in-law Alfred (Bud) Mahler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford on August 18, 2016 at 11:00 am. There will be a private Interment for family only at a later date at St. Francis Cemetery
