Leavenworth, Verne

Verne C. Leavenworth, 76, of New Preston, CT, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was the widow of Ronald N. Leavenworth who passed away September 20, 1993.

Mrs. Leavenworth was born in Washington, CT, January 18, 1940, daughter of the late Albert Collins and Eva (Reid) Collins Cieklinski . She was a graduate of Washington  High School, class of 1958. She married her husband Ronald on June 13, 1959  at the First Congregational Church of New Milford.

She worked as a bookkeeper for several local car dealerships and most recently for the Northville and Bantam Markets. She enjoyed working outside in her flower gardens, moving the lawn, Weed whacking and plowing her driveway with the lawn tractor. She especially enjoyed  being with and spending time with family and friends.

Mrs. Leavenworth is survived by a son Bruce Leavenworth and wife Margaret of Bantam, CT and a daughter Cheryl Leavenworth of New Preston, CT; three brothers, Garth Collins of Marble Dale, CT,  Paul Collins and his wife Kaye of Roxbury, CT and Fred Collins of Newtown, CT; two grandchildren, Aaron Leavenworth of Bantam and Meghan Sampson and husband Bryce of Winchester, CT;  great grandson, Daniel Sampson of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister Faye Mitchell.

Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 2 PM at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.  Burial will follow at the New Preston Cemetery.
