David E. Pare, husband of Leora E. Pare, a longtime resident of New Milford, CT passed away in his sleep Saturday night, July 30th at 11:10 PM surrounded by family.
Dave was born in Bristol, CT on June 23, 1929 to Wilfred D. and Lena O. (Mitchell) Pare. Dave attended school in New Milford and Henry Abbott Technical School where he cultivated his love of woodworking and carpentry. He joined the Danbury National Guard in 1950 with his brother Paul and longtime friends Eddy Mosher and Henry Corna. They served in Virginia after the National Guard was federalized, in Battery C, 963rd Field Artillery Battalion 43rd Division.
David and Leora were married in February of 1951 while he was serving in Virginia. He was a loving and very devoted father of five: Scott, Lisa, Jeffrey, Dara and Andrea. The family took many vacations in the station wagon driving throughout New England and across the country.
David was a carpenter until May 26, 1971 when he became a Litchfield County Sheriff’s Deputy. He worked as a Deputy until he became a Connecticut State Marshall. He served as a Marshall until well into his 80s.
Dave loved to fish, garden and spent many hours in his wood-working shop making mailboxes for family and friends. He used rare and exotic woods to make everything from tables to salt and pepper shakers. In 1962, with help from family and friends, he built the house on Sullivan road where he and Leora raised their family and Leora currently lives.
Dave is survived by his wife Leora; a brother Paul Pare of Cape Coral, Florida; his son Scott and wife Vicki of Winsted, CT; daughter Lisa and husband Chick Pinney of Apache Junction, AZ; son Jeffrey and wife Laura of Chicago Park, CA; daughter Dara and husband Darrel Newton of Kirkland, AZ; and daughter Andrea and husband Alasdair Crawford of Perkinsville, VT. He has seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dave’s smile, sense of humor and ability to “fix anything” will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT, Friday, August 5th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A funeral services will be held Saturday August 6, 2016, 10:00am at Lillis Funeral Home. Internment will follow in Center Cemetery in New Milford.
There will be a reception at the Candlewood Valley Golf Course Saturday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
