O’Brien, Raymond J. Jr.

Raymond J. O’Brien, Jr., age 79, of New Milford, CT, died at his home on June 6th, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.  During his life Ray was dedicated to his church, his community and most of all to his family, especially his beloved wife of 50 years, Margaret “Pat” O’Brien.  He served four years in the Air Force and upon being honorably discharged, put himself through college, becoming a graduate of Newark College of Engineering (now called New Jersey Institute of Technology) and later in life obtained master’s degrees from Union College and the University of New Haven in statistics and environmental engineering. He worked at Kimberly-Clark Corp. in New Milford for 40 years and also served on the Town Council for 38 years in addition to volunteering on various committees and organizations in the community.

Ray is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughter MaryBeth Jirgal and her husband Robert, their children, Madeleine, Molly, Daniel and Margaret; his son Michael O’Brien and his wife, Kathryn, their children Kyleigh, Declan and Shayleigh; and his daughter Kathryn A. O’Brien.  He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Gillard and her husband Robert; his brother Michael T. O’Brien and his wife Patricia; his sister Barbara Dedman and her husband Craig; his brother Jeremiah O’Brien and his wife Belena; his brother Dennis O’Brien and his wife Kay; his sister Linda Warwick and her husband Tom, and his brother Kevin O’Brien and his wife Judy.  Ray’s wisdom, integrity and wit will be sorely missed by his friends and family.  A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 11, 2016, 10:00 am at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford, CT.  Internment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in New Milford.  Calling hours will be Friday, June 10th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation in Ray’s name be made to The Children’s Center, 11-A Aspetuck Ave., New Milford, CT 06776.
