Gray, Robert A.

Robert Adrian Gray, of Vonore TN and New Milford CT,  born March 16, 1981 in Danbury CT died unexpectedly on May 2, 2016 in Vonore TN. He was the son of Adrian and Doreen (LaViolette) Gray; brother of Jennifer (Marc) Cioto and Katherine Gray (Kris Kurjiaka). Rob was “Uncle Bobby” to Ashley, Anthony, Kathleen, Isabella and Nicholas whom he adored. He is also survived by his paternal grandparents Rev. Adrian & Blanche Gray, Sr., several aunts and uncles:  Kathleen & John Powell, Mark & Barbara LaViolette, Hugh & Martha Gray, Matthew & Holly Gray, Nancy Blair, and Betty Burke; cousins by the dozens, and many, many friends. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Robert and Concetta LaViolette.

Rob graduated from New Milford High School in 1999, attended Hudson Valley Community College and then joined the Navy. His time in the service as a Hospital Corpsman brought him to many foreign lands; the majority of his tour was with the Pacific Fleet, Third Marine Regiment where he served with an extraordinary group of Marines.

While in the service he earned many awards, commendations and certifications including: Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation, Global War on Terrorism, Navy Unit Commendation,  National Defense Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Awards. Rob held Nationally Registered  EMT Certification, and National ski patrol membership with Outdoor Emergency Care.

Rob had been employed by Yamaha Jet Boat in Vonore, TN and Gulf Strategic Partners in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Rob loved to spend time outdoors skiing, hunting, tracking, off-roading, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 26 Chestnut Land Rd, New Milford CT. A reception will follow in the Church Hall.

A Memorial Service will also be held at St. Anthony of Padua, 28 State St, Troy  NY on Monday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. (A Remembrance Service is being planned in Vonore TN in June.)

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to or a Veterans support group of your choosing.
