Irving A. Armstrong, 85, of New Milford, CT. passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Candlewood Valley Health Center, New Milford. He was the husband of Phyllis Hodge Armstrong.
Mr. Armstrong was born in Mt. Kisco, New York, April 20, 1930, son of the late William E. and Helen Dutcher Armstrong.
After graduating from high school, he entered the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was last employed as a student transporter with Education Connection in Litchfield, CT. He also worked in the lumber yard department at H.H. Taylor for many years, and as a security guard at Boehringer Ingelheim.
Mr. Armstrong was a member of the Water Witch Hose Company #2 of New Milford for 57 years and a volunteer and EMT with the New Milford Ambulance Association. He also was a member of the Connecticut State Grange and the Bethlehem Grange.
In addition to his wife Phyllis of 58 years, he is survived by a son, Brian Armstrong (Robin) of New Milford, CT; two daughters, Kathleen Brush (Charles Jr.) of Southbury, CT and Colleen Rodger of New Milford , CT; grandchildren, Kelly, Kyle (Heather), Jenna, Garrett (Olivia) and Tyler; and one great-grandchild, Kaleb. He was predeceased by a brother William Armstrong and a sister Marion Armstrong.
A Funeral Service will take place on Friday March 25, 2016 at 1 PM at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Rt. 202, Marbledale, CT. Internment will follow at Center Cemetery, New Milford, CT.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 24 from 5 to 8 PM at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
