Sanders, Philip L.

Philip L. Sanders of New Milford, CT died March 14, 2016 at Village Crest Center for Health & Rehabilitation in New Milford, CT with his family by his side at the age of 69.
He was born in Flushing, NY on November 21, 1946 to the late Donald and Pauline (Paquett) Sanders.  He graduated from Aviation High School in Long Island City, NY in 1964.  Later that year he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He proudly served his country both at home and overseas.  Philip was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in fall of 1970.  He went on to work for New York Telephone for the next 40 years.  During that time he married, had a daughter and moved to New Fairfield, CT where he became a very active member of the community.  He was a member of the NF Jaycees, NF Democratic Town Committee, and numerous other clubs.  At the age of 40, Philip was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease which led to an early retirement and the opportunity for a short time to play the game he loved, golf.
He survived by his loving daughter Rebecca Sanders of New Milford, CT, his former wife Alice Sanders of New Milford, CT, his brother and sister-in-law Russell & Laura (Pippia) Sanders of Pleasant Valley, NY, his sister MaryJane Sanders of Sacramento, CA, his nieces Christine Sanders, Margot (Sanders) Frost, nephew Thomas Sanders and many other nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT on Wednesday evening, March 16, 2016 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Interment will take place in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT, 11 am on Thursday March 17, 2016.
