Paul Raymunt passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the age of 81 at Sharon Health Center in Sharon, CT after a brief and swift battle with dementia. Paul was born on April 6, 1934 at the family homestead in Washington Depot, CT. He was the son of Adam and Elizabeth (Grumauskas) Raymunt and was the youngest and last survivor of 11 children. Paul attended local schools and later (with the help of local benefactors who saw his potential) received a scholarship to attend The Gunnery where he achieved great academic success, after which he went on to attend Yale University and later graduated from Columbia University. The time between attending Yale and Columbia he enlisted in the Army to serve his country and to gain life experiences. He was proud to have joined all his brothers in serving in the Armed Forces. After leaving the army he decided to abandon his early aspiration to study architecture and instead went on to earn his degree in Business Administration. His achievements were a great source of pride for Paul and his entire family considering his humble beginnings as the son of immigrant parents. In 1957, he joined the IBM Corporation where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1987 from his position as Senior Technical Administrator of IBM’s Global Risk Management Group. After spending much of his life living in New York City, Westchester County, NY, a vacation home in Fire Island, NY and New Preston, CT, his life came full circle by returning to his roots living out his last years in Washington Depot where he assumed the role as caretaker to his sister Frances (who is recently deceased) and of the family homestead. He had a great love of music and spent much of his time playing the piano and sharing his love of music with his family. He always had a great love of his family and great pride in his Lithuanian heritage. He is survived by his nieces: Linda Raymunt Krusky, Teresa Raymunt, Carole Raymunt Webb, Dorothy Raymunt Hawerden and Shirley Raymunt Foster; and his nephews: James Raymunt Jr, Randall Raymunt, Richard Raymunt, Mark Raymunt, Stanley Raymunt, and Michael Raymunt, along with many great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday March 7, 2016 at 7:30 pm at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. Calling hours will begin 5 pm Monday evening prior to the service. Internment will take place in the spring at Washington Green Cemetery in Washington, CT.
