Ernest L. Gavel, a life long Roxbury, CT, resident, died Thursday January 7, 2016 in New Milford, CT, at the age of 83.
He was born May 30, 1932 in New Haven, CT, son of the late Louis and Anna (Novak) Gavel. He served with the Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. Mr. Gavel was a heavy equipment operator for Kovacs for 30 years. He was a Scout Master and coached Little League in Roxbury. He raced at Danbury Race Track and loved working on cars.
Mr. Gavel was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Lonczak) after 53 yrs. of marriage on October 12, 2011.
He is survived by his son Ernest Gavel and his wife (Jennipher) of Southbury, CT, his daughters Mary Ann Fabiano of Bridgewater, NJ and Patricia Stinson and her husband Benjamin of Roxbury, CT, a brother Frank Gavel of Wilton, CT, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Saturday January 9, 2016 from 10 am to 12pm with a service immediately following at 12 noon at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT, followed by the internment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Roxbury, CT.
