Gordon E. Hansen, 61, of New Milford, CT, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2015 surrounded by his family following a courageous 16-month battle with a Glioblastoma. He remained optimistic throughout his treatment which included 3 brain surgeries in less than one year. He was a devoted friend, respected leader and had a great sense of humor.
Gordon was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 4, 1954, son of Einar and Astrid (Andersen) Hansen and was raised as a proud Norwegian. He was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, received his bachelor’s degree from NYU and his master’s degree from the University of Delaware. He was the Vice President of Analytical Sciences at Boehringer Ingelheim where he worked for 33 years. He was a longtime member of Salem Covenant Church where he loved singing in the choir and served as Church Chairman for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Diane (Olsen) Hansen; devoted son Andrew and his fiancée Andrea, daughter Elyse Lessa and her husband Bill, and beloved cockapoo, Lacey. He was looking forward to his son’s wedding in September and anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild, a granddaughter, in October.
Gordon was an avid cyclist and went on many bike trips throughout the country with his co-workers. He never missed an opportunity to take a photograph and loved to spend time editing them and sharing them with others. He loved to cook and spend time with his family. He was a diehard New York Mets fan who was loyal even during the tough seasons.
