Went, Edward T.

Edward T. Went of Roxbury, CT, died Monday August 3, 2015 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, CT, at the age of 90.

He was born November 29, 1924 in New Milford, CT, son of the late Waldyslaw and Valeria (Pilatowski) Went. He graduated from New Milford High School in 1941, attended classes at Western Connecticut State University and served in the US Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Went lived in Roxbury for the past 58 years.

He worked for SNET Co. for 35 yrs. and retired in 1982 as a Construction Manager. He served twelve years as First Selectman of Roxbury, was a life member of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Dept. serving eight years as Chief. He also served as Town Treasurer, Zoning Board and Senior Housing Board member, one of the first EMT’s in Roxbury, coached Little league and was a member and Trustee of St. Patrick’s Church in Roxbury. Mr. Went represented Roxbury on the Shepaug Valley Regional School Board of Education for 6 years. Mr. Went was predeceased by his wife Norma Thompson in April 2008. He is survived by his daughters Barbara Cover (Norman) of Roxbury, CT; Beverly Weaving (George Steiner) of New Preston, CT; Diane Bigelow (Kenneth) of Colrain, MA; brother General Joseph Went, Ret. USMC of Fairfax, VA; sister Florence Clark of Naugatuck, CT: grandchildren J.D., Nathan and Allison Went, Victoria and Benjamin Cover, Matthew, Christa and Courtney Weaving, Alex, Cassandra and Eliza Bigelow; and great granddaughters Kylie and Tiffany. He was predeceased by his son Daniel Went and brothers Walter and Henry Went.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday August 10, 2015, 11 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Washington, CT. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Roxbury. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 8pm at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
